Transmission 03
A room above everything
Every broadcast begins in the same place: one quiet room, very high up, looking at something too large to name.
Sometimes it is a city of pearl towers rising out of the clouds. Sometimes it is a moon so close it fills the window. Sometimes it is only rain, running down a tall pane of glass, with the lights of a city we will never visit glowing far below. The view changes every night. The room does not. That is what makes it home.
Why so high
There is a particular calm that only exists far above the ground. The noise of the streets cannot climb that high. Weather becomes something you watch instead of something that happens to you. The world is still there, all of it, but it has become a view.
We put every room high up for that reason. When you are lying down in the dark, it helps to feel that everything else is far away and that nothing down there needs you tonight.
Something too large to name
Each room faces something enormous: a white structure rising from a silent sea, a fleet of skyships crossing the moon, a monolith standing in pink fog. These things are not there to impress you. They are there to make the day feel small.
Whatever happened today, whatever is waiting tomorrow, it is a little easier to put down when you are looking at something that has been there for centuries and will be there long after tonight.
The rooms of the season
The first season, The Long Way to Begin Again, is a journey through these rooms. It starts on the 212th floor, with rain on the window and a letter on the table: come to the monolith before winter. From there it crosses the atlas one place each night, by skyship, by train and on foot, until it reaches the great monolith in the pink fog, where everything begins again.
You do not have to follow the story to fall asleep in it. Every room stands on its own. But if you come back every night, you will find the next one waiting.
Come back tomorrow
A new room opens every evening at 8:00 PM Eastern on YouTube. Explore the whole atlas on cyberwaves.fm and see which places have already been discovered.
The lamp is on. The rain has started. The room is ready.
